new location, new partner – as of 2025

«roots» is setting the course for the future – with a new location and a new partner. the restaurant is also amplifying and refining its gastronomic palette, which gives the centre stage to vegetables.

«roots» is set to leave its home in the rhypark at the end of the year. from january 2025, it will welcome guests at its new location on the former premises of «oliv» in basel’s bachletten district. «the new location is an opportunity for us to set our strategic course in both the mid and long term,» states managing director dragan rapic.

the creative minds behind «roots» want to transform their tried-and-tested concept into a refined all-encompassing experience in an atmosphere tailored to the occasion. in other words, it is not about making wholesale changes. on the contrary, in fact: in this new environment, they will amplify the culinary journey. vegetables continue to take centre stage on the plate, with fish and meat serving as side dishes as usual.

appreciation and recognition of performance

head chef pascal steffen is committing to «roots», too. in january 2025, he will become a partner at «roots». «after almost seven years together, pascal’s partnership is a logical step in my eyes. it reflects my recognition and appreciation of his work and loyalty,» states rapic. for his creativity and the quality of his cuisine, gaultmillau switzerland named the «roots» chef «discovery of the year in german-speaking switzerland» in 2018, followed by «up-and-coming chef of the year» in september 2023. today, «roots» is the proud holder of 18 gaultmillau points and two michelin stars.

«we want to continue to refine our culinary journey at the new location while remaining true to our philosophy,» states pascal steffen with emphasis. «everything is still based around the concept that vegetables are the star. we will continue to build on our collaboration with local producers and suppliers.» and: «we will also continue to work on our strategy to ensure satisfaction for ourselves and our guests, with a focus on well-being and indulgence.» as managing director dragan rapic reveals, «our guests can look forward to where we will take them on this journey next.»the rent of the eventlocation rhypark will remain unchanged – with a stronger focus on holding events. the relocation of «roots» opens all-new opportunities in a unique location.
